Plane crash victim was on way home for kid's family day

MANILA, Philippines - Families, friends and colleagues of the victims of Thursday's deadly plane crash in Cotabato City are mourning the loss of their loved ones in the tragic accident, which claimed the lives of 9 persons.

The family of Maj. Gen. Butch Lacson declined any interview on the Air Force official's death in the plane crash in Cotabato City on Thursday.

Only the family's security escorts faced the camera, describing how Lacson's wife and children are dealing with the tragedy.

Lacons's wife, Beth, suffered from high blood pressure after learning of her husband's death and still remains in shock, like their children.

He was set to fly back to Manila to attend a Family Day activity at the school of his youngest child, who is only 10 years old.

"Nagulat talaga ako. Nanghina talaga ako. Kasama namin iyan. Parang tatay namin 'yan... kasama namin kumain. Di ka pinapabayaan," Staff Sgt. Joseph Cornel, Lacson's security aide, said.

Lacson's aides also said that they have not yet informed the youngest child about their father's fate.

Because of this, the two eldest children of the Lacsons were reported to be fighting back tears so as not to give away the fact to their sibling.

"Nalungkot kami. Tumahimik mundo namin... 'Yong bunso nagtatanong, 'Kuya Louie, ano ba nangyari'... sinasabi namin buhay pa [siya]," security aide Louie Damias said.

The aides also said that they are saddened by the fact that Lacson is reported to be up for promotion to the 3-star rank of lieutenant general before he retires next year.

Lacson's wife has said she will wait for her husband's remains to be brought back to Manila.

Meanwhile, the wife of Col. Prisco Tacuboy, another victim, rushed to Cotabato City to claim the remains of her husband.

On Thursday evening, Capt. Genaro Gaylord Ordonio's brother Nash also went to the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City, shocked about the news of the crash.

He said he is thinking of joining the flight of a C-130 cargo plane Friday for Cotabato to claim the body of his younger brother
